How to Celebrate National Dog Day 2026:
5 Fun Things to Do With Your Dog

AUGUST 24, 2026

National Dog Day 2026 falls on Wednesday 26th August, giving us the perfect excuse to make a little extra fuss of our four-legged friends!

National Dog Day is celebrated every year on 26th August and is all about celebrating the companionship, loyalty and happiness dogs bring to our lives. It’s also a chance to think about dogs who are still waiting for their forever homes and the importance of giving every dog the care, love and attention they deserve.

So, whether your dog is happiest charging through the countryside, chasing a ball around the garden or curled up on the sofa, here are five fun and easy ways to celebrate National Dog Day 2026, Simply Jaspers style.

1. Go on a special walk

If there’s one thing most dogs will never say no to, it’s a walk. National Dog Day is the perfect opportunity to make their usual outing a little more exciting by heading somewhere different. You could explore a new country park, wander through a woodland, visit a dog-friendly beach or simply try a walking route you’ve never taken before.

There’s no need to plan a huge adventure either. Dogs love having the chance to stop, sniff and explore their surroundings, so even a familiar walk can feel special if you take your time and let them enjoy it. Pack some water and a few of their favourite treats and make a proper day of it.

2. Make time for their favourite game

National Dog Day is also a great excuse to put everything else aside and spend some proper one-to-one time with your dog. Whether they’re obsessed with chasing a ball, love a game of tug or would happily spend half an hour searching for a hidden toy, make time for whatever makes their tail wag.

You could even introduce them to a new game. Try hiding their favourite toy around the house or garden and encouraging them to find it, or set up a simple scent game that gets them using their nose. It doesn’t have to be complicated - for most dogs, having their favourite person join in is what makes it fun.

3. Teach them a new trick

Fancy giving your dog a little challenge? National Dog Day is a lovely opportunity to spend some quality time together while giving their brain a bit of a workout. You could teach them something simple such as paw, high five, spin, touch, wait or find it, using positive rewards to keep things fun.

It can be a particularly good activity for puppies, who are still learning the ropes, while senior dogs can enjoy gentle training and mental stimulation at their own pace. Keep sessions short and cheerful, and don’t worry if your dog doesn’t pick it up straight away.

4. Treat them to something tasty

Of course, no National Dog Day would be complete without a few tasty treats. Simply Jaspers treats are made in the UK with natural ingredients and are a great way to add a little something special to your dog’s day, whether you’re rewarding good behaviour, taking a few along on your walk or simply giving them a well-earned treat.

Our Simply Jaspers treats are hypoallergenic and suitable for dogs of all ages, making them a great choice for puppies, adults and senior dogs alike. They’re also made with sensitive tummies in mind, so you can treat your dog to something tasty without overcomplicating treat time.

You could even turn treat time into a bit of enrichment by hiding a few around the house or garden and letting your dog sniff them out. It’s simple, it’s fun and, most importantly, there’s a snack at the end of it.

While National Dog Day is a lovely excuse to spoil your own dog, it’s also worth remembering the many dogs across the UK who are still waiting for a loving home.

One lovely way to help is by sponsoring a rescue dog. Sponsor a Dog with Dogs Trust

You can choose a dog to sponsor and help support the care of dogs waiting for their forever homes. It’s a small gesture that can make a real difference, and a lovely way to celebrate National Dog Day by doing something for a dog who needs a little extra help.

Happy National Dog Day!

However you choose to celebrate, we hope you and your four-legged friend have a brilliant National Dog Day.
